Geordie, our pet kunekune has always been very food orientated and he tends to spill food from his metal bowl and then pushes his wee brother out of the road to get at his food. So my wife suggested that we should get a rubber tyre and put the bowls in the tyre so they cant spill out the food. Well on my visit to the local recycling facility this morning I asked if I could take a couple of old tyres and was told yes. So I spotted two solid rubber tyres, probably from a fork lift or similar vehicle and they were perfect for the metal bowls we usually use to feed our two kunekune's. The pictures on this page show Geordie and Buddy being fed today and their new super duper feeding stations.
Geordie sunning himself as he waits to get his veg and fruit treats.
Our kunekune's are very gentle when they take treats from our fingers.
Buddy doing a sit so he can get his fruit and vegetable treats.
We positioned the tyres a little distance apart and this has worked very well and also allows Buddy (who usually gets bullied) to have peace to eat his meals.
Buddy munching away at his specialist pot belled pig food and barley. Ok I know they are not pot belled pigs but it is the closest thing you can get for kunekune pigs that need a lower fat content in their diet.
Geordie is having no problem eating his lunch with the new setup.
